Project History

Starting in 2014, the Community Library hosted a series of three public visioning workshops for the purpose of creating a building plan for the library that honors the unique needs of our community. Workshops were 6 hours long and held over 3 Saturdays. Residents, leaders of local civic and volunteer groups, community agencies, school board members, local business owners, and elected officials attended. The facilitator lead attendees through a collaborative process of creating a vision for the future of the library building. Some of the options that were considered included a renovation of the existing building, the acceptance of donated land from the Town of Brookhaven at the Links Property as the location for a new, state-of-the-art facility, and other options. Workshop attendees gave feedback and their ideas became the driving force of this project. At the completion of these workshops, attendees indicated their preference to pursue a new library building located on the town donated Links property.
